About Speckled Sussex
The Speckled Sussex chicken is an English heritage breed dating back to the Romans. This large, dual-purpose breed has a friendly, curious disposition, are active foragers, and wonderful mothers. They are good layers, laying about 250 large eggs a year, and put on weight well, topping out around 7-9 lbs.
